Women's participation in the National League |
|
The Hibernians Women’s Football Team commenced its
participation in the domestic league in the season 1995/96. For the first seasons
the Paolities had an experimental squad in which they did not achieve good results. On
the other hand, they gained a lot of experience playing against good teams such as
Rabat Ajax and Lija Athletics.
|
The 1997/98 season was the beginning of a new era
for Hibernians. Pierre Brincat was engaged as coach who, with his vast playing
experience, started to forge a team that in the near future was to give a lot of
satisfaction.
|
Hibernians managed to win their first championship in the following season. This
success story did not end here; the girls went on winning one championship after
another for eight consecutive years. Under Pierre Brincat, apart from the six
league titles, Hibs also won the Knock-Out Competition twice in seasons 2000/01
and 2003/04.
|
At the beginning of season 2004/05, Pierre Brincat ended his career as a
local coach to start a new one as female National coach.
|
|
Roland Solars replaced Brincat as Hibs’ new coach for just
one season in which Hibs won their seventh title. In the season 2005/06, Jose’ Borg took
Solars’ place as coach, and managed to steer the ladies team to win two doubles in 2005/06
and 2007/08 and twice the super cup in 2006 and 2007.
|
As from 2004 Hibernians introduced the nursery sector from
which most of today’s players emerged.
